Hop ...Dear Paul (A distinguished defense attorney),
Hop Kee is closed for another week until the Year of the Tiger. I will get to it as soon as it re-opens.
(To other readers: Paul ran into me in Fairway Saturday afternoon as I was shopping for some cheese and caponata for the cocktail party we were hosting Saturday night which proved very successful. It was part of a progressive dinner from our synagogue. Special thanks to Dr. Dave [see above], because I chose the boucheron goat cheese he served us two weeks ago.)Alan Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05333151076795669224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7565177441726050969.post-70559979616804551382010-02-01T05:14:30.942-08:002010-02-01T05:14:30.942-08:00You mention Hop Kee at 21 Mott Street, a restauran...You mention Hop Kee at 21 Mott Street, a restaurant that has been there forever. Do yourself a favor the next time you're there and order one of the best restaurant dishes in the City, their pan-fried flounder with scallions. It's heavenly, if you like fish, of course. Hope your dinner Saturday night was a success. Paul B.Paul B. However, while it was good, I suspect it was not up to NY standards, and certainly there was no Law & Order live.David Lee McMullenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13066994932090777631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7565177441726050969.post-29116759394078190092010-01-31T18:41:04.086-08:002010-01-31T18:41:04.086-08:00January 312, 2010

Siegal Restaurant.
When I got out of the army I worked briefly for my father in his ladies coat business on the same block. Newly married and earning just $60 a week, I could hardly afford any luxuries. But this I indulged every Tuesday. For lunch I entered Lou G. Siegel's Restaurant and ordered a corn beef sandwich for $1.25. I left a tip of $.25, not out of choice, but out of necessity. My friends told me that to omit the tip risked getting a sandwich the following week without any meat in it.
i can afford many more luxuries today, later in life, but this sinful pleasure of my youth remains etched in my memory.
Dr. DaveDAVEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320585414436186652noreply@blogger.com
